I'm a tender hearted, compassionate, nurturing person. I've always been an animal lover and have always been the one crying over the sad commercials and stories of animals. I realized that instead of feeling bad I needed to step up and do something about the abused, neglected, and stray animals. A friend sent out an email about dogs from a puppy mill that were being dumped as garbage and that got me moving. I wanted to help them so I volunteered to foster. Yes, you get attached to these dogs, but the rewards are worth it. You watch as these animals gain trust in humans, realize that they will have food always available, find out how fun it is to play with dog toys and how comfy a soft dog bed or lap can be. Many of the dogs I took in were terrified of everything and had never been out of the small wire cages the breeders keep them trapped in. The first time they responded to me by wagging their tail or licking my hand was a huge break through. Working with them and helping them gain trust, watching them start to interact with my kids all these seemingly minor things are so rewarding. Not only am I helping animals but this is also an educational experience for my kids.
I cannot save every animal out there, but I can make a difference even if it is a small one. Watching these dogs learn to be dogs and finding a loving home is so worth it.
Did you know that in the United States alone more than 800 cats and dogs are euthanized EVERY HOUR??? Stop buying from pet stores, don't support puppy mills, look to rescues for your next furry companion. Make a difference in a rescue dog or cat's life and you will be making a rewarding difference in your life too.
