What's the difference between a chicken and a hen?

Honestly, I don't know, is there a difference? Is it called a hen after it's laid eggs?  Does that make it an old fat hen?  Is it a chicken only when it's young and still "chicken" to do certain things?  My best pal  Barb is someone who could answer this question for us so we'll have to wait and see what she has to say.  Maybe she can even tell us why the chicken crossed the road?  Is it because once it's on the other side it becomes a hen?

This is my chicken shaped card template that is available in the store. Cluck, cluck, cluck.....

  3. Yup, cheekyradish....chicken is the species. A hen is a female chicken and a rooster is a male chicken. And if you want to be even more specific, a young hen is a pullet and a young rooster is a cockerel. Not sure, though, why the chicken crossed the road.

Love the card......here a cluck, there a cluck.
