A Happy Ending!

My foster dog, Weenie, went home to her forever home today.  She was with me exactly 1 week and a day. Having spent the first 4-5 years of her life in a cage in a puppy mill she was adjusting quickly to kind humans and soft beds.  The gentleman who adopted her came to my house today with his Dachshund, who was dressed in her best sweater, matching collar and dog tag.  His wife died from ovarian cancer 3 months ago and they had, as he put it, always had "his and her" Dachshunds.  His Doxie became ill in December and had to be put to sleep.  He said that Sadie, his remaining Doxie, is extremely depressed and sad, but today she showed a little of her old self when she meet Weenie and me. She wagged her tail a bit and I even got a sloppy kiss. I think Weenie and Sadie are going to be wonderful companions for each other and for their "dad".  A happy tail wag ending :)

  1. I'm so happy that Weenie found a forever home! It sounds like a perfect fit! I'm sure it was hard to give her up after having her with you even though it was only a week. That's always the hardest part of fostering...giving them up, but I'm sure the time she spent with you will be remembered as the start of a wonderful new beginning for her. I'm so glad there are people like you who care enough to do this. My youngest has done this as long as I can remember, and she says it's better to give them some time in a real home instead of the shelters, so they don't forget their potty & other training. Thanks again for all that you do!

  6. OMG, what a great story, I'm crying like a baby.
    How silly am I?
I had to put down my sweet little Memphis last week, well she was almost 21 so she had a great life. But my other kitty does not seem to be bothered at all. I think he loves getting all the attention.
