Dog Update...

This picture shows our German Shepard, Stanley, and one of our Havanese, Ollie.  Stanley was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney failure.  Since he is only a little over 1 year old we were all shocked.  We are doing everything we can to make the remainder of his life good quality time, but watching him become lethargic and quiet is difficult when he was such a playful dog.  The vet said maybe 3 months.  The only clue that he was sick was he suddenly started to vomit and lost weight.  Naturally I thought it was a stomach issue since his breed is prone to this. Yesterday I caught this picture and I want to think that Ollie is whispering in his ear that he loves him.

  2. I should have mentioned this before, but have you researched the food you have him on? I was giving my dog Blue Buffalo until he got sick and after looking on the Consumer Affairs website I discovered MANY dogs with the same problems. I also understand there have been some other foods causing the same problems. It's worth looking into and trying a food change if you haven't already. Very sweet picture and I'll be hoping for the best.

    1. Thanks Cindi, we have researched everything including food and we are working with a kidney specialist, but unfortunately it is not reversible. He is on a special diet and takes a ton of medicines hoping to keep him comfortable a while longer. I do appreciate your comment.

  4. I am so sorry to hear this. How in the world can this happen at such an early age for dogs? Praying for comfort for you and your family. These little furbabies are our family as well. ~hugs~ Karen Sue
